While we're at the subject of obscure naming of new species; I did some research and found a whole lot of strange names for organisms that don't have anything with the organism itself to do.

Anophthalmus hitleri - Blind cave beetle, unfortunate for this poor guy, Latin names seem to stick, no matter how politically incorrect they are. The discoverer was a fan of the führer and named his find after him, I'd take it as an insult, though. What's also interesting is that the bug's biggest threat seems to be collectors of Hitler/Nazi memorabilia.

Utahraptor spielbergi - A raptor (dinosaur) discovered one week before Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park opened, guess the discoverers got caught up in the hype. The author of the original novel, Michael Crichton also got his own dinosaur (Bienosaurus crichtonii)

Phialella zappai - The guy who found this jellyfish really wanted to meet Frank Zappa, so he immortalized his name in a blob of jelly and disorganized neurons.

Bufonaria borisbeckeri - I'd be insulted if my entire proud species of sea snail was to be named after Boris Becker...

Oedipina complex - The guy who found this species of salamander is insinuating that they all want to marry their mother and slay their fathers (see: oedipal complex)

Smeagolidae - An entire family named after Gollum/Smeagol from Tolkien's novels, I kinda see the resemblance
